As November came in and there is only one month left, we are all wondering who the richest person is for 2017.
On October 27, Amazon’s shares jumped 13%, to close at $1,100.95 making the CEO, Jeff Bezos the richest person in the world.
He was also briefly the richest person in the world when the markets opened on July 27, 2017, according to Forbes. At the time, he was the first person with a net fortune worth $90 billion.
But, when the markets closed Bezos had been dethroned.
I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. And I suspected I would always be haunted by a decision to not try at all.
But who is Jeff Bezos, the Richest Man in the Word
Jeff Bezos, best known as the creator of Amazon.com is a retail entrepreneur, investor, computer scientist, and philanthropist.
Early Life and Education
Bezos was born in 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Jacklyn (née Gise) and Ted Jorgensen.
Bezos often displayed scientific interests and technological proficiency; he once rigged an electric alarm to keep his younger siblings out of his room. The family moved to Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Palmetto High School. While in high school, he attended the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida. There he received a Silver Knight Award in 1982.
In 1986, Bezos graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University with Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. While at Princeton, he was also elected to Tau Beta Pi. He served as the president of the Princeton chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space.
After graduating from Princeton, Bezos worked on Wall Street in the computer science field. He then worked on building a network for international trade for a company known as Fitel. He next worked at Bankers Trust. Later on, he worked on Internet-enabled business opportunities at the hedge fund company D. E. Shaw & Co.
Bezos founded Amazon.com in 1994 after making a cross-country drive from New York to Seattle, writing up the Amazon business plan on the way. He initially set up the company in his garage.
Amazon began as an Internet merchant of books and expanded to a wide variety of products and services, most recently video streaming and audio streaming. Currently, it is the world’s largest Internet sales company on the World Wide Web, as well as the world’s largest provider of cloud infrastructure services.
But Amazon is not his only thing to be proud of. Jeff’s interests include aerospace and newspapers. He is the founder and manufacturer of Blue Origin (founded in 2000). In 2013, he purchased The Washington Post.
